A Communication Mishap...

This post is loooong overdue!

Every year I have this internal debate about sending a Christmas card. I hate when the holiday season gets stressful so I try to minimize and be as simplistic as possible. But of course the guilt started to set in as we started receiving Christmas cards from friends and family so I decided to hurry and order some. It ended up being the most simple thing I did this year (especially compared to the Martha Stewart quality snowflake gingerbread cookies I made).

I designed and ordered the cards online. Picked them up the next afternoon. That very same evening had them addressed and half of them stamped (I ran out of stamps) and were mailed off the next morning. I was so proud of myself for getting them done so quickly and pleasantly surprised by how easy and stress free this whole Christmas card thing was turning out to be this year.

Then the other un-stamped cards sat on my desk for a couple of days. Christmas was just days away. Finally, I asked Nic if he would take them to the post office in the morning on his way to work. That way I didn't have to make another outing to the post office with the two boys. He happily took them to the post office.

When Nic came home from work he informed me that the post office wasn't open yet so he just dropped them off in the box thingy.

Me: "Really? They didn't have stamps on them."

Nic: "What? I didn't know that!"

Me: "You didn't look at them?"

Nic: "You just told me to take them to the post office."

Me: "Uh, yeah! Because they didn't have stamps on them otherwise I would have put them outside our house for the mailman to pick up and save ourselves a trip to the post office."

Nic: "Well, you didn't tell me they needed stamps. I thought you wanted me to take them to the post office so they would get sent out sooner."

Lesson learned.

When you want your husband to do something for you, you must s-p-e-l-l-i-t-o-u-t.

Another lesson learned.

Laugh. I laughed so hard! I had to. I could have freaked out and made it a big deal but it was not a big deal. The cards were returned to me. I put stamps on them and mailed them out...again. They probably got their like the day before Christmas or maybe after with an extra really embarrassing stamp on it that shows how stupid we were for not putting a stamp on it the first time. Oh well.

Sometimes you gotta laugh to stay sane. Laugh at your mistakes, at your husbands mistakes. Because life it too short not to.
